Wind-Wave Flume

WWFlume

The new Wind-Wave Flume is 18 m long, hosting water at up to 80cm depth. The cross section of 1.2×1.8 m leaves more than 1 m to the air flow above the water surface. Powerful 10 H.P. blower coupled with closed circle air flow guides, settling chamber, noise reducing chambers and construction will supply wind of up to 20 m/s mean cross section velocity.

The flume is a large experimental apparatus dedicated to staging wind-waves interaction experiments. Direct generation of water waves by the above blowing wind, in addition to mechanical wave makers and waves absorption beach, will allow to simulate naturally excited random wave fields of various ages.

Numerous modern and traditional measurement equipment and sensors allow obtaining accurate data of various important wind and waves parameters. The measurement instruments list includes PTV, PIV, resistance type wave gauges, fast cameras, ADV, LDV, pressure transducers, Pitot tubes and static pressure probes, and more.
